Matthew McCarter
Senior Associate
Matthew is a Senior Associate at Kelly & Ignoffo Law Group working closely with clients from initial consultation through resolution of their claims. “People only call a lawyer in their darkest times; it’s an honor to be able to step up and lead them through to the light.” Matthew’s empathy, compassion, and focus on client needs drives him to secure the best possible resolution. He has consistently received praise from both opponents and colleagues for his professional demeanor and ability to navigate complex issues.
Prior to joining Kelly & Ignoffo, Matthew was a Senior Attorney with Nathan & Kamionski focusing on civil rights and wrongful death litigation in both state and federal courts. His work involved the development and implementation of litigation strategies in complex policy and procedure claims, class actions, and other high-value cases. He also was Chair of the Chicago Commercial Litigation Division representing corporations as both plaintiffs and defendants in litigation in multiple states. Matthew also gained valuable insight working for a nationwide firm defending clients in mass toxic torts, for the Chief Justice of the Illinois Court of Claims, and for Kelly & Ignoffo as a first-year lawyer.
Matthew earned his B.A. degree from the University of Iowa in 2010 and his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, the same as his father, in 2015. At Chicago-Kent he was a member of their nationally recognized trial team. Matthew returned to the Chicago-Kent community as an adjunct professor for several years, and mentored law students pursuing careers in litigation.
Matthew and his wife Michelle are growing their young family in the southwest suburbs. They can be found on many weekends at family functions and friend gatherings.
